Why Position Sizing Matters


Position sizing connects account risk, stop distance, leverage, liquidity and trade quantity. It cannot eliminate losses, but a deliberate framework can help limit the size of an individual mistake.


What is Position Sizing?


Position sizing determines how much of your account to risk on each trade. It's not about how many shares or lots to buy - it's about how much money to risk.


The Golden Rule


**Example framework: risk a small, predefined percentage of the account on a trade.**


For illustration only, a 1-2% framework would mean:

  • $10,000 account ? Maximum $100-200 risk per trade
  • $50,000 account ? Maximum $500-1,000 risk per trade
  • $100,000 account ? Maximum $1,000-2,000 risk per trade

  • Calculating Position Size


    Step 1: Determine Your Risk Amount

    Account Balance * Risk Percentage = Risk Amount

    Entry Price - Stop Loss Price = Stop Loss Distance
