Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate crypto profit and loss?
Crypto profit is calculated by: (Exit Price × Crypto Amount) - (Entry Price × Crypto Amount) - Entry Fee - Exit Fee. ROI is calculated as: (Net Profit ÷ Total Investment) × 100%. Our calculator automatically handles these calculations with live market prices and real exchange fees.
Are the prices real-time?
Yes, our calculator uses live market data from CoinGecko API, which provides real-time cryptocurrency prices. The prices update when you refresh the page or click the 'Refresh Prices' button, ensuring you always have current market data for accurate calculations.
What trading fees should I use?
Trading fees vary by exchange and your VIP status. Most exchanges charge 0.1% for both maker and taker orders (Binance standard), while Coinbase charges around 0.5% plus spread. Use your actual exchange fee structure for accurate results. VIP discounts and token-based rebates (like BNB on Binance) can reduce your effective fees.
Should I use investment amount or crypto amount?
Use investment amount when you know how much fiat you invested (e.g., $1,000 in Bitcoin). Use crypto amount when you know how many coins you bought (e.g., 0.05 BTC). Both modes give the same results, just different input methods based on your trading records.
What is the difference between maker and taker fees?
Maker fees are charged when you add liquidity to the order book (limit orders that don't fill immediately), typically lower (0.1% on Binance). Taker fees are charged when you remove liquidity (market orders or limit orders that fill immediately), typically higher (0.1% on Binance). Most exchanges have different rates for each order type.
How accurate are the profit calculations?
Our calculations use live market prices and standard fee structures, but actual trading results may differ due to spread, slippage, execution timing, and exchange-specific fee variations. Use the calculator as a planning tool and verify exact amounts with your exchange's trading history.
Can I use this for tax purposes?
The calculator provides accurate profit/loss calculations that can help with tax planning, but consult a tax professional for exact tax reporting. Different countries have different tax treatments for cryptocurrency (short-term vs long-term capital gains, taxable events, etc.). Keep detailed records of all trades for tax compliance.
What cryptocurrencies are supported?
We support 15+ major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Binance Coin (BNB), Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), Dogecoin (DOGE), Polkadot (DOT), Polygon (MATIC), Avalanche (AVAX), Chainlink (LINK), Uniswap (UNI), Litecoin (LTC), Cosmos (ATOM), and Ethereum Classic (ETC).
How do I calculate break-even price?
Break-even price is the exit price needed to recover your total costs including fees. Formula: Break-Even = (Entry Price × (1 + Entry Fee%)) ÷ (1 - Exit Fee%). For example, with $50,000 entry, 0.1% entry fee, and 0.1% exit fee, break-even is $50,100.10. Our calculator shows this implicitly when profit equals zero.
Why does ROI differ from simple price change?
ROI accounts for trading fees, while simple price change does not. If Bitcoin goes from $50,000 to $55,000 (10% increase), but you pay 0.1% fees on both sides, your actual ROI is only 9.8% ($4,899 profit ÷ $50,000 investment). Fees significantly impact returns, especially for frequent trading.
